Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once seating is full, guests will be directed to an overflow space to view the webcast or it may be viewed on a personal device.

Board of Regents Authorized Charter Non-Renewal - Department staff will present a recommendation for a charter non-renewal. NYSED notified the school of the non-renewal recommendation in February 2023. The school was afforded 30 days to respond to the notice of intent to non-renew pursuant to § 8 NYCRR 119.7. The steps taken by NYSED to work with the school and next steps will be discussed. Revisions to Charters Authorized by the Board of Regents - Department staff will present recommendations for charter revisions. Renewal Recommendation for a Charter School Authorized by the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) - Department staff will present a recommendation for charter renewal from the NYC DOE Chancellor. Proposed Amendment of Sections 80-1.6, 80-1.7, 80-1.8, 80-5.9, 80-5.24, and 80-5.25 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to the Initial Reissuance, Provisional Renewal, and Time Extension Requirements - Department staff will present proposed regulatory amendments to revise the type of certificates that are eligible for the Time Extension and remove the Time Extension option for Initial and Provisional certificate holders, and instead, allow these certificate holders to obtain up to two Initial Reissuances or Provisional Renewals with more flexible eligibility requirements. Proposed Amendment of Section 80-2.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to the Deadline to Apply and Qualify for the Provisional School Counselor Certificate - Department staff will present proposed regulatory amendments to extend the date by which candidates who completed a registered program leading to Provisional School Counselor certification would need to apply and qualify for this certificate by one year to February 2, 2024. |

Proposed Amendment to the Title of Subpart 79-16 and Sections 79-13.1, 79-13.3, 79-13.6, 79-14.1, 79-14.3, 79-15.1, 79-15.3, 79-16.1, 79-16.2, 79-16.3, 79-16.4 and 79-16.5 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Cytotechnologist and Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histological Technician - Department staff will present for permanent adoption proposed amendments to the Title of Subpart 79-16 and Sections 79-13.1, 79-13.3, 79-13.6, 79-14.1, 79-14.3, 79-15.1, 79-15.3, 79-16.1, 79-16.2, 79-16.3, 79-16.4 and 79-16.5 of the Commissioner’s regulations to conform them to Chapter 446 of the Laws of 2022, the majority of which, becomes effective January 17, 2023. Chapter 446, among other things, aligns New York’s clinical laboratory professions’ licensure requirements to national standards in order to meet the increasing need for qualified licensed laboratory professionals and address critical laboratory staffing shortages throughout this State. Proposed Amendment of Section 64.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to Education Requirements for Licensure as a Registered/Practical Nurse - Department staff will present proposed emergency amendments to Part 64.1 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education relating to education for licensure as a registered professional nurse or licensed practical nurse. The amendments are required to ensure that applicants who complete education in another state or country meet equivalent standards to safeguard the health and safety of the public. Overview of Professional Education within the Office of the Professions - Department staff will present an overview of the Professional Education unit within the Office of the Professions, which is responsible for the review and approval of education programs that lead to licensure. The presentation will highlight specific requirements for license-qualifying education programs that must be met for 55 professions established under the Education Law to ensure graduates meet minimum education requirements to safely provide services to the public. |
